Why your support is so important
Art is more than just a visual experience – it is a window onto the world, a route to self-discovery and a means of connecting people across all sorts of borders. Art is a powerful tool that opens up new perspectives, inspires us and deepens our understanding of the world. But not all people have equal access to the museum world. Here at the Hamburger Kunsthalle, we try to break down barriers and give everyone the chance to experience art in a diverse and inclusive way. To make these opportunities accessible to one and all, we rely on innovative educational programmes that are specially tailored to the needs of a wide range of visitor groups. For this, we need your support!

Wide-ranging educational offerings at the Hamburger Kunsthalle

The Hamburger Kunsthalle’s educational programme addresses a diverse audience and is geared toward visitors of all age groups, needs and interests.

Thanks to a large team of permanently employed and freelance art educators, the Hamburger Kunsthalle is able to offer a varied and accessible programme for all visitors. This includes classic exhibition and themed tours, a comprehensive course programme, and dialogue-based and interactive tours as well as special educational formats for daycare centres, pre-schools and schools and also inclusive offerings such as tours for blind and visually impaired people, for people with dementia and for neurodiverse people. In addition to educational offerings guided by our staff, there are also many forms of art education using both analogue and digital media.

The Hamburger Kunsthalle offers a huge variety of educational formats. With a donation to Art Education & Outreach, you support for example:

  • Offers for school classes: Your donation helps us to develop custom programmes for school classes that complement and enrich art lessons. Interactive workshops and age-appropriate guided tours turn art into a memorable experience for schoolchildren.
  • Workshops for adults and families: With your support, we can offer a wide range of workshops designed for adults and families. These workshops encourage creative thinking and enable people to actively experience art and create their own artworks.
  • Guided tours for blind and visually impaired people: Your support enables us to develop tactile tours that make art tangible for people with visual impairments. Special tactile models and multi-sensory elements give people a deeper connection to the artworks.
  • Audio guides and digital formats: Thanks to your donation, we can create modern digital formats such as exhibition films, digital tours of the collection, VR experiences, and audio guides for adults and children in multiple languages. These media make art accessible to a wide audience in a contemporary manner while fostering cultural participation.
  • Texts in easy language: Art should be comprehensible for everyone. Your support enables us to produce texts and information in easy language so that people with learning difficulties or language barriers can better understand works of art and their stories.
  • Studio work, equipment, creativity: Providing creative offerings in the context of exhibitions, workshops and guided tours is an important supplement to art education. In exhibitions, for example, analogue and digital drawing equipment is made available in specially designed art education rooms where people can reflect at their leisure on the exhibition theme. Studios allow people to give free rein to their creativity by taking part in courses, holiday programmes and guided tours. There is a constant need for funding to make all these activities possible.
  • Publications: Art education publications are developed to ensure that visitors can get the most out of the permanent collection and special exhibitions even without taking a guided tour. It is your support that makes these printed materials possible, e.g., a map and a sketchbook for families, worksheets for schools and various booklets to accompany the special exhibitions.

Your donation – A contribution to inclusive art education
Your donation enables us to implement a broad range of educational and outreach projects that make art accessible to everyone. Whether you want to make a one-off donation or support us in the long term – every contribution counts and is appreciated.
